Bristol City expected team to face Sheffield Wednesday: Return to five at the back

It's just one win in the last six meetings for the Robins when they come up against the Owls on Sunday.

With aerial supremacy in the Championship at stake - via a spot in the top six in the league - Lee Johnson's side will not want to reflect on a wretched run of late against Sheffield Wednesday.

The record against Garry Monk is better but the South Yorkshire side have won three of their last four matches and will offer a tough test on Sunday.

Ahead of then, our Bristol City writer predicts the starting XI for the game on Sky on Sunday.

Defence

Dan Bentley has been a standout for the Robins this season and will be in goal.

And we forecast a return to a back five for this tough away trip against one of the Championship's most in-form sides.

Jack Hunt is certain to play against his former side and Jay Dasilva is not yet fit to play on the other side, meaning that Tommy Rowe will start on the left flank, with Tomas Kalas and Ashley Williams in the middle, likely joined by either Nathan Baker or Taylor Moore in the middle.

Midfield

In midfield we predict few changes, except for Niclas Eliasson to drop to the bench.

That will leave 24-year-old Josh Brownhill in the middle with teenager Han-Noah Massengo and Adam Nagy in the centre of the field to gain control of the game for the visitors against Barry Bannan, Adam Reach and co.

A tough job for on-field captain Brownhill and his team-mates but one they are perfectly capable of.

Callum O'Dowda and Kasey Palmer could be recalled but that likelihood is an outside bet, though either player could add energy or skill to the Robins.

Attack

It can only be Andi Weimann and Famara Diedhiou with Antoine Semenyo, Rodri and Marley Watkins not having done enough in recent weeks to secure a first-team place of their own.

The existing front pair will be retained for the trip to Hillsborough.

Predicted Bristol City team (5-3-2): Bentley; Hunt, Kalas, Williams, Baker, Rowe; Nagy, Brownhill, Palmer; Weimann, Diedhiou
