Bristol City, Derby County and Middlesbrough linked with £20m duo - report

Bristol City are one of a number of clubs to have been linked with Peterborough United duo Ivan Toney and Marcus Maddison.

The pair have both enjoyed fantastic starts to the new campaign, leading to speculation that they may leave in January.

Teamtalk report that the Robins, along with Derby County and Middlesbrough showed interest in both players in the summer.

With their form so far this season - Toney has netted eight goals in nine League One appearances and has five goals and six assists - there is now fear from the London Road side that Premier League clubs may be interested in the duo.

That has led the Posh to slap £10m asking prices on both players, meaning a combined bid of £20m would be enough to get the pair.

City's interest in the summer would make sense - they were keen for a striker for the whole transfer window, and were also looking to bolster their attacking midfield.

However, rather than Toney and Maddison, the Robins instead landed Benik Afobe and Kasey Palmer in those positions.

Afobe is now likely to miss the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury, meaning the Robins are once again in the market for a striker.

Whilst Lee Johnson says they are looking at the free transfer market, there is a possibility City could wait until January in order to sign a player instead.

However, whilst the Robins have money to spend, it seems unlikely that they would spend £10m, breaking their transfer record, on a League One player with no Championship experience.
