Bristol City, Derby County and Cardiff City chasing Scottish starlet David Turnbull - report

Bristol City are reportedly among a number of clubs chasing the signature of Scottish starlet David Turnbull.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season at Motherwell, scoring an impressive nine goals and providing five more from midfield in 25 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.

According to the Scottish Sun, the Robins, play-off contenders Derby County and newly-relegated Cardiff City are all chasing the youngster's signature.

Representatives from each club were reportedly in attendance for Motherwell's 2-0 defeat at St Johnstone on Saturday.

Turnbull recently picked up the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year award following his exploits this term and earned a new contract in January.

A versatile midfielder and product of the Motherwell youth system, Turnbull can operate in the centre, in a more advanced role or on the left flank.

Well assistant boss Keith Lasley has described him as the best young Scotsman of his generation.

The teenager recently said he would be open to a move but would be equally happy to stay put in North Lanarkshire given the prospect of reduced playing time at a Championship or Premier League club.

"I’m not sure my future here will be up to me," he said.

"If clubs come in and put a bid in for me, it’s a sign that I’m doing well. But it won’t be up to me.

"If someone offers a lot of money, I’m the sure the club might want to take it – then maybe look at a loan back or something like that.

"But at the moment I’m just focusing on Motherwell. I’ll come back next season and see what happens.

"Maybe if I was to go down south or to a bigger club, it would be harder to get in the team, let alone be one of the main players."

Could we see Turnbull at Ashton Gate next season?
