Bristol City defender Adam Webster included in renowned stats website's Championship team of the season alongside Aston Villa and Leeds names

A Bristol City defender has been included in a reputable football statistic website's team of the season.

WhoScored have included Adam Webster in the back line of their best XI of the Championship campaign, based on his average match rating.

The website's player ratings are based on each event recorded in the game calculated live automatically using algorithms, which comprise of more than 200 raw statistics.

WhoScored say that all events are valued based on a researched perception of the effect on the outcome of the match. Positive events are valued against negative events.

Affectionately known as 'Webdini' in a tongue in cheek knod to Milan great Paolo MALdini, Bristol City centre-back Webster has scored an average of 7.3 out of 10 this season - second only to Leeds United's Liam Cooper in defence.

His ball-playing ability and runs out from the back have thrilled Robins supporters this season, leading to the comparisons with the best.

Remarkably, the summer signing has the won the most aerial duels and made more interceptions than any other central defender this season.

In their assessment of the 24-year-old's season, WhoScored wrote: "A summer arrival from Ipswich, Webster has filled the void left by Aden Flint’s departure in impressive fashion to help push the Robins towards a play-off finish.

"The 24-year-old has won the most aerial duels (263) of all centre-backs in the league at an excellent 71.7 per cent success rate and produced the most interceptions (88) of any player in his position."

Former Bristol City loanee Tammy Abraham is also included in the XI, as well as Villa teammate Jack Grealish and fellow Chelsea man Reece James.

Despite being named Championship player of the year and in the PFA Championship Team of the Season, top scorer Teemu Pukki misses out based on the stats.
