Bristol City dealt blow as Leeds United shoot down transfer rumours amid hopes Arsenal loan striker stays

Leeds United are not set to sign Matej Vydra, despite reports over the weekend suggesting a deal for the Burnley striker was close.

The Athletic's Phil Hay has shot down rumours that Vydra will sign for Leeds, claiming a move definitely will not happen.

It will come as a blow to Bristol City, who are keen to sign Eddie Nketiah in the New Year.

Nketiah is on loan at Leeds but has struggled for game time, making 11 league appearances from the bench with no starts to far this season.

It has led to a suggestion that parent club Arsenal could recall Nketiah, freeing him up for a move to the Robins.

Reports that Leeds are keen on a striker would tally with this - they are said to be looking at replacements for Nketiah - but Hay reports that Leeds are anticipating a quiet January.

The news comes after Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa last week said that he expects Nketiah to continue at the club.

"That would be ideal," he said (  via Leeds Live  ).

"I hope he continues and I wish he wants to stay with us.

"I think Eddie's integration into Leeds is going to be good if he stays in January and one more year.

"What we try is that he feels that Leeds is the proper place for him to develop.

"But obviously we cannot compete with top teams in the Premier League, but I am sure that if Nketiah succeeds here in Leeds the next step is going to be the top clubs in the Premier League."

It could well mean that the Robins are forced to look elsewhere in January in their striker hunt.
