Bristol City close on deal for promising League Two attacker with Robins links

Bristol City are close on a deal to bring in Newport County attacker Owura Edwards.

Edwards already has links with the Robins, with his brother Opi already in the club's youth set-up and travelled to Florida for the recent pre-season training camp.

The youngster, currently in Newport's academy, was on trial with the Robins earlier this year and he clearly impressed, with a compensation package having now been agreed.

Edwards set up a goal for the Robins' under-18s in a 3-2 defeat to Sheffield United in March, and he has also had a taste of senior football with a loan move to Mangotsfield United.

It is unlikely he would be involved with the first-team set-up, but instead go into the Robins' youth team.

As a scholar, Edwards can technically move to the Robins on a free transfer, but Newport are entitled to compensation for the player.

City have a close relationship with the Exiles, with the likes of Antoine Semenyo, George Nurse, Cameron Pring and Tyreeq Bakinson having recently spent time on loan there.

Edwards' brother, Opi, spent last season on loan at Torquay United, helping them win promotion back to the National League Premier Division.
