Bristol City close on deal for Nahki Wells ahead of QPR after interest from Nottingham Forest - report

Bristol City are said to be close to agreeing a fee to sign Nahki Wells.

City are very keen on signing the striker, who has netted 13 goals in 26 Championship appearances this season, after Burnley terminated his loan at QPR.

The Telegraph's Mike McGrath has tweeted that the Robins are close to agreeing a fee for Wells to sign him on a permanent deal.

There has been plenty of interest in Wells since his recall from Loftus Road, with the Robins facing competition from Nottingham Forest and QPR themselves for his signature.

The Robins had also been in talks with Burnley over striker Matej Vydra, with the Clarets looking to move only one of them on in this transfer window.

It now appears that the player they have elected to sell is Wells, with the Robins said to be close to agreeing a fee.

In an ironic twist, should the Robins complete a deal for Wells prior to the registration deadline on Friday, his first game for the club could be a trip to QPR on Saturday.

QPR are believed to have dropped out of the running for Wells over the price tag he was given by the Clarets.

Burnley's previously reported valuation of Wells stood at £7m.

Whether that impacts the Clarets' interest in Josh Brownhill remains to be seen.

Burnley are interested in the Bristol City midfielder but have yet to make a bid for him, with reports suggesting they were unwilling to meet the Robins' £10m valuation for the player- particularly with Brownhill's contract containing a release clause that can be activated in the summer.

The Robins' interest in Vydra and Wells somewhat complicated interest in Brownhill, with Burnley said to be open to the idea of a swap deal.
