Bristol city centre takeaway told 'major' food hygiene improvement needed

A takeaway in Bristol city centre was found to be in need of "major improvement" during a recent food hygiene inspection.

B C Diner on St Augustines Parade was inspected on February 4 and given a rating of one out of five according to the Food Standards Agency's records, with the lowest possible score being zero. Hygiene inspections look at three categories - one of which is management of food safety, which is where the takeaway was deemed to be in need of major improvement.

According to the FSA, this category is judged on the takeaway's systems or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and whether or not the inspector "has confidence that standards will be maintained in future".

In the other two categories - hygienic food handling, and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - the takeaway was rated as "good", but overall it was found to need major improvement and was awarded one star.

Efforts were made to contact B C Diner for comment. The takeaway has a customer rating of four out of five stars on Google based on 41 reviews.

One reviewer who ate there last year wrote: "My favorites [sic] are their veg burgers. Good offers and great taste."

Its UberEats profile still states: "BC Diner has a FHRS rating of 4. This information was updated on 05/02/2022. The current rating is on their page on the FSA Website."
