Bristol city centre hit by another shop closure

School stationery shop Smiggle has closed its Cabot Circus branch.

A notice on the shop window confirms it closed yesterday (Oct 12, 2019) after its lease expired.

It tells customers: "Thanks for all the smiles and giggles!

"You can still find us at the Mall at Cribbs Causeway or at smiggle.com"

Smiggle markets itself as "the most colourful and creative store around".

It claims to offer everything you need for school, homework or play.

Its stores are filled to the brim with bright and bold stationery, bags, lunchboxes, accessories, gadgets and more.

It comes after outdoor clothing and leisurewear store Regatta announced it would be closing its Broadmead store soon but did not give reasons for shutting its doors.

In addition Links of London, which supplies Ernest Jones in Cabot Circus and at Cribbs Causeway, as well as John Lewis in the city, has collapsed - risking 350 jobs.

Business services company Deloitte has been appointed to manage the administration process, which follows a failed sale of the business by Greek owner Folli Follie.

Joint administrator Matt Smith said: "The company has had to contend with difficult trading conditions that have impacted the whole retail sector."

It's not just shops either, with music venue The Den Dockside which only opened in May, closed in July.

It was run by three independent business owners but, now, one of them has told Bristol Live there's a chance the venue could be up and running again soon.
