Bristol city centre gym to reopen as new bowling alley next year

A new bowling alley and bar could soon be coming to Bristol city centre.

Roxy Lanes offers “booze and ball games” including ten-pin bowling, beer pong and crazy golf among other activities.

It currently has sites in Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham and Birmingham and plans to open in Bristol as part of a UK-wide expansion in 2022.

If plans are approved, Roxy Lanes will open in the former Fitness4Less gym on Union Street, which closed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Roxy has applied to sell alcohol at the prospective venue from 11am to 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am to 1.30am Sunday to Thursday.

It has also applied to the council to play films and recorded music.

It would follow in the footsteps of popular bar and bowling alley Lane7, which opened at the Harbourside this year.

Karaoke and table tennis would also be available at the new venue.

It comes after Fitness4Less announced it was “sadly not in a position” to reopen its Bristol branch after closing at the start of lockdown in March 2020.

An update on the gym's website reads: "Whilst we have been closed our Management Team have done everything possible to protect the business. However, it is with great regret that we are writing to inform you that we are sadly not in a position to reopen our branch in Bristol.

"To secure our future it has been necessary that we gain the support of our partners and landlords and agree on a way forward with them. In the case of Bristol, unfortunately, this has not been possible and therefore our business here is not commercially sustainable in these uncertain times."

Roxy Leisure has been approached for comment.
