Bristol City, Celtic and Cardiff City in three-way battle to sign Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga - reports

Bristol City are in the running to land Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga this summer according to reports, but they will face a battle for his signature according to the latest.

The striker has long been mentioned in dispatches regarding a move to City, but Football Insider reports the Robins face stiff competition from Scottish champions Celtic from relegated Premier League side Cardiff City who both have serious financial clout.

Middlesbrough are looking to dramatically cut their wage bill after failing to make an immediate return to the top flight last season season leaving the 26-year-old’s future up in the air.

Forward Assombalonga, 26, has an impressive scoring record in English football, netting 115 times in 278 matches for Boro, Nottingham Forest, Peterborough United and Southend United.

Last season Assombalonga scored 16 goals in 46 matches for Boro.

He earned a £15million move to Boro after netting 30 times in 69 matches for Forest.

Football Insider report a Celtic insider has confirmed Assombalonga is firmly in their sights.

Celtic manager manager Neil Lennon has made a new striker a top priority to ease the workload on last season’s top scorer Odsonne Edouard.

Assombalonga is currently away on international duty with the Democratic Republic of Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations.
