Bristol City, Burnley and Derby County 'target' Ivan Toney could be unsettled by big money offer, admits director

Bristol City reported target Ivan Toney could be unsettled by a big money offer, Peterborough director Barry Fry has admitted.

The Robins have been linked with the striker alongside fellow Championship clubs Derby County and Cardiff City, as well as Premier League outfit Burnley.

The forward leads the scoring charts in League One alongside former Bristol City striker Mo Eisa and is being touted for a record departure from the club.

Club director Barry Fry has said the club are not looking to sell, but admits Toney could have his loyalty tested if a big money offer came in, according to HITC.com .

Fry said: "Our board love Ivan and he isn’t going anywhere.

"We might have a problem with Ivan if he gets a whiff of a million pounds a year contract, but he’s a good lad with his feet on the ground and he knows that sort of offer isn’t likely.”

Initially, the Peterborough Telegraph reported chairman Darragh MacAnthony saying: "Toney will break the transfer record for a League One player when he goes.

“If he goes that is. He’ll certainly smash the Posh record.

"We don’t want to lose anyone in January, but you can’t guarantee anything in football. If we do lose anyone they will be replaced."

The current record departure for a sale one player is £11 million, the fee Everton paid Charlton Athletic for Ademola Lookman in 2017.

Fry has played down talk of the League One record being broken, but did say the Posh record would likely be broken, currently held by Britt Assombalonga after his move to Nottingham Forest in August 2014.

He said: "If he did go it would set a record fee for the club which incidentally is £8 million for Assomablonga and then £7.5 million for (Dwight) Gayle when you include the add ons."
