What Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has said about Eddie Nketiah transfer and Leeds United

Eddie Nketiah could be recalled from his Leeds United loan by Arsenal, according to the latest reports.

The 20-year-old has netted five times for Marcelo Bielsa's side this term but is yet to make a league start for Leeds.

His failure to overhaul Patrick Bamford from Bielsa's starting XI has seen brought about speculation that Bristol City, who tried to sign Nketiah in the summer, would be interested in signing him, should Arsenal decide to cut their player's loan short in January.

The reports from today suggest that Leeds are expecting the striker to return to the Emirates Stadium in January and are working on a replacement.

That leaves the way out for Bristol City and Lee Johnson who has recently spoken about the situation.

"I was asked about the situation and how it came about because there was a lot of press on it - mainly from the Leeds end, to be honest," Johnson said in October.

"I was asked, and it was a broad view, and it wasn't about Eddie in particular, on any young player going out on loan.

"For me, it's about concentrating on the players that we've got and we've got a lot of bright, young talent coming through: Semenyo and Saikou Janneh.

"At the moment he's an Arsenal player who's currently on loan to Leeds and I presume that'll be the way it stays.

"If that situation changes, then of course we'll look at it with a viewpoint in the market as it stands, but also depending how our young boys are developing and whether we can promote anybody from within."

Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has previously moved to allay fears of an early recall and Arsenal boss Unai Emery spoke on the matter.

"Now is not the moment in October," the Gunners chief said last month.

"He is now on loan in Leeds . First I respect his coach and his decision,” he continued.

"And I think he is going to play more, because he is going to deserve it."

Nketiah is injured and will miss the trip to Reading on Tuesday night.
