Bristol City and Nottingham Forest set to miss out on forward heading for Sheffield Wednesday

Bristol City look set to miss out on a loan deal for Connor Wickham.

The Sun report that Crystal Palace are set to send the striker to Sheffield Wednesday for the rest of the season, despite late interest, and reportedly a better offer, from Cardiff City.

Wickham was targeted by the Robins and Sheffield Wednesday last month, with interest also coming from Nottingham Forest and French side Bordeaux.

Yet the Robins appeared to move on to other targets when it was revealed earlier this month that Wickham favoured a move back to Wednesday, a club he had previously spent time on loan at.

Wickham's suitors were subsequently given a boost over his potential availability when the Owls were unable to close a deal with Palace for the forward, reportedly due to a disagreement in how much the Hillsborough side would contribute to the 26-year-old's wages.

It saw Cardiff City swoop late with what was reported to be a better financial offer to Palace to take the striker on loan.

Yet, with the player getting a say in where he wants to move to as he looks for regular first-team football after a series of injuries, he now looks set to complete a deal to Wednesday.
