Bristol City and Celtic told asking price for highly-rated midfielder also linked to Derby County and Brighton & Hove Albion

Motherwell CEO Alan Burrows says the club expect far more than £1.2m for David Turnbull.

Bristol City have been linked with the 19-year-old midfielder, who has been labelled the next Michael Ballack by some.

He scooped the Scottish Football Writers young Scottish player of the year award this season after netting 16 goals in 34 appearances for Motherwell.

Yet the Robins face competition for his signature, with Celtic having joined Derby County and Brighton & Hove Albion in the race to sign him.

Recent media reports claim that £1.2m would be enough to secure his services, but, on Twitter, Burrows said that could not be further from the truth.

He said: "Getting some questions Re: David Turnbull, given today’s newspaper report.

"I try not to reply to speculation (for obvious reasons), but to reiterate what I’ve already gone on public record as saying. We will only consider offers of significantly more than our record fee received.

"He’s our player and we’ll only sell on our terms. I’m merely making it abundantly clear (to anyone that cares) than £1.2m is absolutely nowhere near our valuation.

"To be fair, those who have sniffed, directly or otherwise, already know that."
