Bristol City and Aston Villa miss out on Chelsea starlet with medical pencilled in for Monday - report

Bristol City won't be signing Chelsea striker Martell Taylor-Crossdale as the forward looks to be the latest Englishman heading to Germany.

The Mirror's John Cross reports that a medical has been arranged for Monday, with the 19-year-old talent set to be transferred to Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim.

Bristol City had been linked with the striker who has impressed consistently at youth level, but the the England U18 international seems to have decided to head to Germany rather than play in the Championship.

Aston Villa were also linked with Taylor-Crossdale although their promotion may have dampened any real interest, with £22m spent on Brazilian attacker Wesley Moraes this week instead.

Taylor-Crossdale will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Jadon Sancho, Reece Oxford, Reiss Nelson and Ademola Lookman who moved to Germany to get more first team opportunities - while Fulham's Cody Drameh is another player reportedly heading to the Bundesliga as he closes on a move to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bristol City have also been linked with Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah as they look at the loan options for 2019/20.

According to our sources the Robins are also interested in Barnsley's Kieffer Moore and have long-standing interest in Aston Villa's Scott Hogan and Middlesbrough's Britt Assombalonga.

The Robins are also interested in several players in Portugal where Lee Johnson has watched games twice over the last 12 months.

The club is open-minded on bringing in loan recruits, as we understand it, if the right player can be found to suit all parties, however.
