Bristol cider bar launches 'suntrap' outdoor terrace

A bar which serves one of the most impressive selections of cider in Bristol has launched a new outdoor terrace.

The Cider Box in St Philip's has been granted permission from the developer that owns the plot of land opposite to allow it to put up a covered seating area on Silverthorne Lane.

The Terrace, which is only open on Saturdays, welcomed its first guests on April 16 and there wasn't a spare seat in sight - with all tables selling out in advance.

Cider lovers can choose from a huge range of varieties of the drink including popular options and rare tipples, as well as cider-based cocktails.

Alongside the cider there are natural wines and local craft beers from Lost & Grounded, Left Handed Giant and Good Chemistry on offer.

Each week there will also be a different street food vendor to line the stomachs of guests, with fried chicken this Saturday followed by "insanely good" cheese toasties and sourdough pizzas in the coming weeks.

"The Terrace is south facing so it's a real suntrap, plus we're covered by canvas in case of rain or snow - although I really hope we've seen the last of that," said Cider Box founder Dan Heath.

"When the sun drops we have freshly laundered blankets and throws for customers to borrow, and even hot water bottles for those that prefer things a little toasty in the evening.

"The Terrace is all about the cider and we have an all-singing celebration of our city's most famous export on offer with something for everyone, whether it's a rare single variety cider or festival session cider.

"There was a great atmosphere here on Saturday and we can't wait to do it all again this weekend."

To keep customers safe, tables are spaced two metres apart and there are one-way systems in place for entry and exit, as well as Test and Trace in operation and table service only.

The space will also play host to a number of events over the coming weeks, starting with a Friendly Records takeover this Saturday (April 24) before Morris dancers the following week to celebrate May Day in style.
