Where can I see Christmas light in Bristol? All the festive locations

There is no denying that Christmas trees going up and the switching on of lights is a key indicator that the festive season is here.

Despite many switch-on events being cancelled or scaled back last year due to coronavirus, this year many are back and better than ever with entertainment for all the family.

Some organisers are still choosing to not have official events this year, but there will still be the opportunity to witness some festive magic as the countdown to December 25 begins.

Here is a round-up of some of the key places to see lights in the Bristol area in the coming weeks:

Clifton Village

Unlike previous years, Clifton Village did not host a public switch-on event this year - however, it still has a brightly lit Christmas tree and people can visit it at the Mall Gardens.

As well as the tree, every Saturday afternoon in November musicians will play there, while Saturdays in December will see carol singers perform.

Brislington

Brislington's Christmas light switch-on offers a packed line-up this year, with attendees being told to expect a carol show from a local primary school as well as stalls from local businesses and a Zumba flash mob. As well as this, Bristol's Lord Mayor Steve Smith is also expected to make an appearance.

The festivities will take place in Sandy Park Road on November 27, from 2-5pm, with the lights being switched on at 4pm by Sher from Sher’s Sandwich Shop.

Ashton Court Light Up Bristol

Santa will be taking a visit to Ashton Court (Light Up Bristol)

Ashton Court will be lighting up the historic mansion and its grounds on multiple dates from November 19 until December 24, from 4.30pm-8.30pm.

The 45-minute 'Light Up Bristol' trail will also offer food and drink along the way for all the family to enjoy.

Cabot Circus

Cabot Circus has released a statement explaining that in order to consider the safety of shoppers, it will not be hosting an official switch-on event.

A spokesperson has said: “Our Christmas lights won’t have a dedicated event but will still shine bright around the centre."

Despite this, festivity has still taken over Bristol City Centre, with the opening of the Christmas market and other attractions such as the Winter Maze.

Portishead

Portishead Christmas Light display claims to be 'the best in the West' - a claim that is supported by many awards.

This year the event will be taking place on Portishead High Street on Monday, November 29, at 6.15pm. It has been announced that some of the event's sponsors will take to the stage and there will also be a special "flying" appearance from Santa.

To add to the excitement, the switch-on will also be followed by a fireworks display.
