Bristol charity The Reef-World Foundation named one of best organisations to work for in the world

A charity in Bristol has been named among the best companies to work for in the world.

Marine ecology charity The Reef-World Foundation, which is based in Stokes Croft, ranked 16 on the Escape100 list of the most progressive organisations to work for.

The charity only has five full-time members of staff but was picked from thousands of entries across the globe after being rated 10 out of 10 for its impact, innovation, environment, B-Corp status and workplace culture.

The Reef-world Foundation is behind an initiative known as Green Fins, which aims to protect the planet's reefs by encouraging eco-friendly snorkeling and diving.

The scheme is currently operating in Antigua and Barbuda, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Palau, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Chloe Harvey, director at The Reef-World Foundation, said: “As a small charity, we were surprised to say the least when we found out we’d been selected as one of the top 100 companies to work for – especially considering the number of entries and stiff competition.

“As the charity grows [we] hope our mission and ethos will resonate with other motivated individuals. I’d like to say a huge well done to the team.”

The Escape 100 list aims to find the best companies to escape to in 2019 and is run by global community Escape The City.

A total of 13,000 organisations were nominated this year for its Escape 100 list from around the world.

James Macdonald, special projects coordinator at Escape The City, added: “I’d like to congratulate The Reef-World Foundation on making it into the top 100.

“This is a real testament to the charity’s progressive and forward-thinking nature, especially considering the staggering number of nominations we received during this campaign.”

The Reef-World Foundation is a registered UK charity but operates on a global scale by training and supporting teams across the world.
