An electrician who relapsed into Class A drugs and stole £25,000 goods from Bristol businesses has been jailed.

Scott Wood was offered crack cocaine after being released from prison, Bristol Crown Court heard.

This summer he carried out a spree of break-ins in which he grabbed everything from bicycles to building materials around the city.

Wood, 47, of Selley Walk in Bishopsworth, pleaded guilty to nine burglaries and one attempted burglary.

He asked for 12 offences to be considered.

Sentencing yesterday (Tuesday, July 7), Judge Julian Lambert jailed him for two-and-a-half years.

'Bleak future'

He told Wood: "You just can't or won't break the cycle of offending.

"It is a bleak future now for you, set against a bleak past.

"This was a spree of offending in May, June and July.

"Commercial losses totalled £25,000 and it is not just about the goods, it is the disruption caused."

Robert Yates, prosecuting, said Wood stole two bicycles from New Fosseway School in Hartcliffe as well as a computer, phone, charging cable and AirPods from Bishopsworth Jobcentre Plus.

Thje court heard Wood also stole bicycles from Ashley Down Dental Practice, Horfield Leisure Centre and Merchant House North in Whapping Road.

The court heard he repeatedly targeted the Pure Electric business for scooters and e-bikes.

He also stole items from ISL Recruitment in Baldwin Street as well as doors and tiles being stored in a car park under the former Bristol General Hospital site in Redcliffe.

Other raids included a car from a car dealership and an attempted burglary of Grass Depot, Bristol.

Matthew Comer, defending, said: "He started taking powdered cocaine 24 years ago.

"That led to crack cocaine.

"With crack cocaine comes the heroin.

"His life is now in ruins.

"He understands the responsibility lies with him.

"He realises if he is going to make something of his life he has to abstain from prohibited substances."
