Bristol brewery to host bank holiday bonanza with beer, food and live music

Great beer, delicious food, DJs and … a house plant sale - that’s the surprising line-up for Bank Holiday weekend at one of Bristol’s top microbreweries.

The Good Chemistry brewery and tap room in St Philips will open its doors for three days over the August bank holiday for a special event.

As well as serving a range of ‘suitable for vegans’ beer, the weekend will include food served by vegan business Soy Ahoy, record spinning from resident DJs Private Britton and Lonely Tourist, and a pop-up plant sale on Sunday from Sprouts of Bristol.

The brewery in William Street was opened in 2015 by Bob Cary and Kelly Sidgwick, who started out with a modest ten-barrel kit.

Since then, Good Chemistry’s draught and canned beers have gained a loyal following locally and across the UK.

Latest beers in the range include Jam Sesh raspberry pale ale, No Filter coffee pale ale and Disco Fizz, a fruited sour beer.

Co-owner Kelly Sidgwick says: “We’re disappointed not to be able to join our neighbours in running an official East Bristol Brewery Trail this August Bank Holiday weekend, but with so many local breweries open anyway we hope people will come out and have a pint or two in St Philips.

“We’re really excited to be welcoming Soy Ahoy with his delicious vegan burgers, ribs and fries – that’s happening all weekend.

“And once again, we’ll have great record-spinning from our resident DJs Private Britton and Lonely Tourist.

“On Sunday, people can get their green fingers going with a special pop-up from Sprouts of Bristol, selling a range of wonderful house plants.”

The Good Chemistry bank holiday event will be open Friday August 27 (5pm-9pm), Saturday August 28 (12noon-8pm) and Sunday August 29 (1pm-6pm).

It takes place at Unit 2, William Street, St Philips, Bristol, BS2 0RG.
