Bristol brewery 'incredibly proud' after being crowned best in the UK

A brewery based in Bristol has been named the best in the whole country at the Brewers Choice Awards 2022. Lost and Grounded said it felt "incredibly proud" of its team after winning two awards at the ceremony that spotlights the best brewers in the UK.

The awards ceremony held in London is part of an annual Brewers Congress to recognise and celebrate the hard work of breweries throughout the year, across a range of categories. Lost and Grounded was notified in September that it had been shortlisted for three categories in this year’s awards, with winners decided by a panel of judges made up of industry experts.

Lost and Grounded came away with two awards, one for Beer of the Year with its Helles, unfiltered lager beer (4.4%) as well as being crowned Brewery of the Year 2022. The Helles beer was introduced into the Brislington brewery's core range in 2021.

Annie Clements, co-founder and creative lead, said: “We brewed Helles to be enjoyed with friends and to remind us of the good things in life."

Alex Troncoso, co-founder added: "It’s great to see a lager win Beer of the Year 2022. We’re so proud of the crisp, clean profile of our Helles and thrilled that the judges agree!”

Lost and Grounded was shortlisted for Branding of the Year for Dog Day Afternoon, a Kölsch-Style Beer (4.8%). The beer was six custom-made cans featuring more than 70 dogs, with part of the proceeds donated to StreetVet, a charity that offers free accessible vet care to pets belonging to those experiencing homelessness in the UK.

Since it was first established in 2016, Lost and Grounded set its four core values: Humble, Inclusive, Clever and Raw, to define and support the culture of the company. The phrasing of the name, Lost and Grounded ‘Brewers’ is subtle but also very important to the ethos of this independent business.

“It’s the people that make Lost and Grounded Brewers, otherwise we’re just a shed filled with stainless steel!” continued Alex. When asked about the award for Brewery of the Year, Annie said: “We are incredibly proud of our team. We’re so pleased to share these awards with them and we look forward to raising a glass to celebrate with them all!”

Co-Founders Alex and Annie first brewed at home 25 years ago and then travelled the world with Alex working for some of the best craft brewers across the globe among the likes of Little Creatures Brewing and Camden Town Brewery. The name, Lost and Grounded Brewers, was coined by the co-founders when it was finally time to stop and make Bristol their home, and grow the business, giving them and their team careers and focus.

The brewery celebrated its sixth birthday over the summer and has a team made up of almost 40 people with nine beers as part of its core range.

Lost And Grounded Brewers is located at 91 Whitby Road, Bristol, BS44AR. The taproom is open each Friday and Saturday
