Bristol-bound Ryanair flight forced to divert after issuing 'emergency alert'

A Ryanair flight bound for Bristol from Spain was forced to make a sudden landing in France. This was after an emergency alert was raised on the plane on Monday morning.

The flight from Valencia was suddenly diverted to Nantes after “squawking an emergency” over Bordeaux. Plane tracking website Flightradar24 indicated that the aircraft had been expectedly changed its route.

Today (20 June, 2023) a spokesperson for Ryanair confirmed that the flight had landed in France due to a passenger emergency. She said: “The flight from Valencia to Bristol (19 Jun) diverted to Nantes when a passenger became ill on board.”

The diverted flight comes as summer travel kicks in with tourist peak season just around the corner. Demand for flights continues to grow for holiday travel after the pandemic with Ryanair announcing 33 routes out of Bristol Airport for summer 2023.

This includes some new destinations such as Bydgoszcz, Porto, Marseille and Venice. There are also increased frequencies on 9 routes including Dublin, Limoges,Milan and Palma.

This makes 290 weekly flights in the busy Bristol schedule, which is up 10% on 2022. At the start of the year, Ryanair confirmed a R500m investment in the south west region which includes two Gamechanger (Boeing 737 8-200) aircraft to the Bristol based fleet.
