Bristol Bears player ratings - a number of strong performances in Premiership win over Gloucester

Bristol Bears consolidated 5th place in the Gallagher Premiership with over Gloucester Rugby at Ashton Gate.

Callum Sheedy kicked five penalties and two conversions to go with tries from Henry Purdy, Luke Morahan and Mat Protheroe.

Not for the first time, number eight Nathan Hughes was named the official man of the match in his first season at the club.

Here's how we rated the Bears players' performances out of 10...

15. Luke Morahan - 7

Made a good first half break and scored after shifting to the wing in the second half.

14. Henry Purdy - 7

Finished his try well against his old club. Sin-binned near the end of the game for playing the ball on the floor after a crucial tackle on Callum Braley. He felt hard done by with that decision.

13. Piers O'Conor - 6

A quiet game for the outside centre.

12. Sam Bedlow - 7

A couple of strong carries before he was replaced by Protheroe.

11. Alapati Leiua - 8

Looked quick and strong on the right wing and made some telling breaks. Also kept the ball alive well with four offloads.

10. Callum Sheedy - 8

Nailed seven out of eight kicks, including some tricky ones. Managed the game well.

9. Harry Randall - 8

Played with pace and enthusiasm. Outshone Joe Simpson, although the Gloucester man had very little ball to play with.

1.  Jake Woolmore - 8

A very decent shift from the loosehead who did plenty of carrying and short passing.

2. Shaun Malton - 8

Bears fans took in a collective gasp when they heard Harry Thacker had failed a fitness test before the game, but Malton was full of energy with the ball and linked the play well. The lineout wasn't as slick as the Bears would have liked, however.

3. John Afoa - 6

Didn't have much scrummaging to do while he was on. Had a couple of decent touches in open play but was quiet by his standards.

4. Dave Attwood - 6

Was keen to carry throughout his time on the field but was well managed by the Gloucester defence. Gave away two kickable penalties for holding on but probably wasn't helped by the rucking of his team-mates on those occasions.

5. Chris Vui - 7

Roamed the outside channels well and was a handful at times.

6. Steve Luatua - 7

Did the unglamorous stuff well, including a timely jackal penalty. The skipper was a good foil for Thomas and Hughes.

7. Dan Thomas - 8

Showed what Bristol were missing when he was injured earlier in the season. Always seemed to be the player supporting the breaks and receiving offloads. Quick and smart around the field.

8. Nathan Hughes - 9

Another man-of-the-match award. Not perfect. He threw a couple of forced offloads in the first half but he was a real handful again; bumping off tacklers, beating six defenders and making 105m from 18 carries.
