Bristol-based YouTube gaming channel Yogscast hit by more scandal as third person leaves

A Bristol company that gained global fame for its YouTube videos on gaming has been hit by more trouble over staff allegedly sending 'inappropriate' messages.

Paul “Sjin” Sykes, a content creator at Yogscast, is the third member of staff to leave the company in recent weeks.

The news was announced on Twitter by the company's co-founder Lewis Brindley.

Mr Sykes apologised on a Reddit thread for his behaviour, saying he is "really sorry if his actions have caused any upset".

He wrote:  "Just to let you know, I’m stepping away from The Yogscast after 8 years. It’s been an intense few weeks for everybody but I believe this is the best way forward.

'This behaviour might not be considered appropriate'

"For a long time I’ve chatted privately with community members but I’ve come to realise this behaviour might not be considered appropriate by everybody."

Earlier this week, Bristol Live reported that chief executive Mark Turpin was suspended from Yogscast and then resigned after allegedly sending inappropriate messages to members of the community.

"Just to let you know I’ve stepped down as CEO of the Yogscast,” he wrote on the Reddit thread.

"I have sent some inappropriate messages to several members of our community and I’m deeply embarrassed about this error of judgement.

“There’s no justification or excuse for my behaviour. I was in a position of considerable responsibility and you all deserved better from me. If you've been upset by my actions, I’m very sorry.”

Meanwhile, another content creator Matthew Meredith was removed from the company over his conduct too.

Mr Meredith, who was known online as Caff, joined Yogscast in 2016 and had more than 100,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel.

Yogscast says it takes complaints "very seriously".

"As soon as we were made aware of incidents involving a staff member and a content creator that broke our code of conduct they were swiftly removed," a spokeperson told the BBC.

Yogscast was founded in 2008 by Mr Brindley and Simon Lane, and has 7.2 million subscribers on YouTube.

The company has been approached for comment on the latest news.
