Bristol bar serving beers and burgers with unbeatable harbourside view has been upgraded

Major improvements have been made to a bar on Bristol's harbourside ahead of its reopening.

Bristol Beer Factory laid the decking for its al fresco venue outside the Arnolfini in March 2020 - and has upgraded it just in time for welcoming customers today (April 12).

More seating has been added to the area and it is now covered by a stretch tent adorned with fairy lights, meaning visitors can enjoy it no matter what the weather.

Customers will be able to order beers and burgers served by the neighbouring Arnolfini, with top chef Josh Eggleton - a business partner of Bristol Beer Factory - heading up the kitchen.

Simon Bartlett, MD of Bristol Beer Factory, said the space became a "bit of a free-for-all" after the decking was put down last year, but it's now a "controlled drinking area".

"We got the decking open last March ready to go ahead with our plans, but then after the arrival of the coronavirus outbreak it unfortunately became a public free-for-all and not what we had wanted," he said.

"Ahead of reopening we've returned and reclaimed the area to make improvements. We've added more seating and covered the entire space to make it usable in all weather.

"This area needs to change and we're hoping this is the start of it."

Simon said the brewery, which has its headquarters on North Street, is hoping to secure more space from Bristol City Council so it can extend the venue onto Narrow Quay.

The space cannot be booked in advance and is instead operating on a first come, first served basis.

Customers will order using an app with four burgers to choose from, with a meat and chicken option and two vegetarian options.

On Sunday, April 4 two people were taken to hospital having been stabbed in a disruption on the harbourside, near to the Arnolfini.

But Simon said the area is now far safer following the renovation.

"It's also now a controlled drinking area that people will need to queue for and be seated, rather than a free-for-all which it turned into," he added.

"That space hasn't been very pleasant over the past few months, but now we'll have people on the gates at all times as well as security guards on Friday and Saturday evenings to ensure it's a safe area."

The renovation has been planned for months, said Simon.
