Bristol Banksy artwork: Owners of house pull out of sale after value skyrockets

The owners of a house used for Banksy's latest Bristol artwork have decided not to sell the property as planned.

Aileen Makin, 57, was due to exchange contracts on the home as early as next week, ITV reports.

Banksy used the side wall of her home for a picture overlooking Vale Street - which is officially the steepest road in England.

Once the artist confirmed the work was his, the homeowner and her son decided not to let the property go as the work could see the value of the family's home rocket.

According to Zoopla, the average home on the street is worth just £300,000 - but Banksy's work has previously sold for millions.

Crowds have continued to gather around Vale Street in Totterdown since the 'Aachoo' piece appeared yesterday (December 10).

Just hours later Banksy claimed credit for the piece on his Instagram and posted an image with a mystery man on his website.

Mr Makin told ITV Westcountry people had begun climbing over the house while he slept last night, to get the best look at the new work.

He said the family had now put perspex over the artwork to protect it, and confirmed he would be speaking to security firms today about how to keep it safe and what to do now.

He added his mother is quite distressed by all the attention and they will take time to consider what to do next.

The Banksy piece creates the illusion of a pensioner's sneeze knocking over houses.

Vale Street is already one of Bristol's most well-known streets, sat high up the list as one of Britain's steepest roads and home to the annual Totterdown egg rolling competition.
