Bristol band record lockdown video for new single - from 11 different locations

Popular Bristol band Mad Apple Circus would normally be preparing for a summer of festivals, but instead the nine-piece are locked down with the rest of the UK.

But that's not stopped them from releasing a new single and putting together a video in lockdown, which has been released alongside the track today (May 1).

New single Shuffle Media featuring Y Dott is the band's first music of 2020. It’s the Bristol nine-piece’s first release since their second studio album Designer Music and their first track with new front man Lucas Chapmam. It’s also the first time they’ve recorded with Bristol MC Y Dott, who was brought in because of the hip hop element of the track.

The tune - which has been road tested at major UK festivals including Nozstock, Boomtown and Glastonbury - tackles how the media and social media platforms have control over our lives.

The song is a jam which Luke, guitar and trumpet extraordinaire, brought to the studio which was tweaked to perfection by the wider band.

It was meant to be on the Designer Music album, but the band held it back so as not to rush getting a second MC on there, and they said they couldn’t be happier it was Y Dott.

While the song itself was recorded pre-lockdown, plans for a big video had to be changed. Still determined to give their fans something to smile about, Mad Apple Circus went back to the drawing board and are putting out a video which still manages to capture the unique and energetic performances the band are known for.

The video - which can be watched above - has been recorded across multiple homes around Bristol, Cornwall and even as far afield as Australia, and edited together by Helen Faulkner.
