Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2019: Additional mass ascent going ahead, organisers confirm

An additional mass ascent for the Bristol Balloon Fiesta is set to go ahead, organisers of the event have confirmed.

It was announced yesterday that an additional mass ascent was to take place this morning (August 8) at 6am.

Organisers have decided to do an additional launch as the weather looks promising today, before it could take a turn for the worse later on in the week.

Better still, the incredible Darth Vader balloon has been confirmed to take part in the ascent, meaning we will see it float above Bristol for the first time ever.

A Fiesta spokesperson said: "To celebrate Darth Vader’s arrival in the city we have taken the decision to add an additional mass ascent to the schedule at 6am on Thursday, August 8, featuring the special shaped hot air balloon, as the current weather forecast is suggesting good conditions for ballooning tomorrow morning.

“We are closely reviewing the forecast over the weekend; currently the weather for Friday and Saturday suggests that it’s less likely that the balloons will be able to fly.

"However, we are still planning for our famous Nightglows on Thursday and Saturday evenings and the event will remain open throughout the weekend with plenty of entertainment going on around the site."
