Bristol bakery which went into liquidation 'is on its way back'

One branch of a long-running Bristol bakery which entered liquidation appears set to reopen.

The six branches of Redland Bakery in Winterbourne, Stoke Lane, Staple Hill, Shirehampton, Cotham Hill and Chandos Road all closed suddenly on Thursday (February 27).

The company, taken over in 2002 by West Country Wholesale Bakers Ltd, went into liquidation in February and made its 55 employees redundant.

But the shop on Broad Street, Staple Hill, now has a sign in its window which reads: "Opening soon: Redland Bakery. We are on our way back."

Redland Bakery's social media channels have not been active since the closure in February.

West Country Wholesale Bakers shut its headquarters on Avonmouth's Severnside Trading Estate around the time the bakeries closed.

Financial services firm Smith & Williamson told Bristol Live in March: "We have been instructed by the director of the company to assist in placing the company into liquidation.

"All operations closed on Thursday, February 27, 2020, with 55 redundancies.

"We are aware that support is being given to the employees to enable them to claim anything owed to them.

"A report is being prepared for creditors who have lost money as a result of the closure."

Bristol Live has approached Smith & Williamson for an update on the company.
