Bristol bakery loved for bespoke wedding and birthday cakes closes down

A Bristol bakery known for its bespoke wedding and birthday cakes has closed its doors after 10 years.

As well as its delicious celebration cakes, Pearly King Cakes has made its name across the city by supplying cakes wholesale to many of Bristol’s cafe and bar venues over the past decade.

Four years ago, Pearly King Cakes also opened a cake shop and kitchen on Chandos Road in Redland.

But now owner Leanne Purton has decided to hang up her whisk and move on to new ventures, as well as spend more time looking after her garden and cat.

The good news, however, is that the Pearly King Cakes brand won’t be lost completely as Leanne has found a new owner for the business.

Juliet Clarke, owner of Bosh Kitchen, will be taking all the baking in-house at her premises near East Street, Bedminster, where alongside her wholesale cake baking, she also holds monthly supper clubs and does private catering.

Juliet will now make cakes for venues all over the city and she hopes to be picking up the celebration cake side very soon.

Leanne said: “Juliet has years of experience and I couldn’t have wished for a safer and more brilliant pair of hands to pass things over to. I know she will be doing amazing things with it.”

Juliet said: “I’m so excited to have the opportunity to grow Bosh Kitchen. Leanne’s cakes have always been great and I’m looking forward to expanding my range and customer base and getting more amazing cakes on sale in Bristol.”
