Bristol areas ranked in coronavirus hotspot list for England

Two small Bristol areas are among the most severe coronavirus hotspots in England.

Public Health England data from yesterday (October 23) showed Bristol city centre had 136 positive tests in seven days – the seventh most of any small area in the country.

And Stoke Bishop ranked 15th, with 110 cases in the same period.

Both Bristol city centre and Stoke Bishop have high student populations, across which coronavirus has been spreading rapidly in recent weeks.

And both of those areas have seen their cases rise further following their appearance on the list of hotspots.

Public Health England data from today (October 24) shows the city centre has 143 cases in the latest seven-day period (the week up to October 19).

Here is the data for those areas:

Bristol city centre: 143 cases and infection rate of 754.7.

Both Bristol and South Gloucestershire recorded their biggest ever daily rise in coronavirus cases yesterday.
