The coronavirus death toll has jumped up again in the Bristol area after 11 people lost their lives in a single day.
Government figures published today (Sunday, November 22) record another surge of cases in the city itself, with a further 192 confirmed within a 24-hour period.
Four more people have died with the virus in Bristol, within 28 days of testing positive.
A further five deaths have been recorded in South Gloucestershire, and two in North Somerset.
Across the wider Bristol area, including the city and its neighbours listed below, 364 new cases have been identified.
Local breakdown of daily figures
The daily figures are recorded below alongside the cumulative total (in brackets) since the pandemic began:
- Bristol +192 (14,350)
- North Somerset +68 (3,704)
Bath and North East Somerset +28 (3,424)
South Gloucestershire +76 (5,676)
Case numbers in the three surrounding local authorities are in line with yesterday's daily statistics, but Bristol's was up from 158.
Across the UK, a further 18,662 cases have been counted today, bringing the accumulative figure to 1,512,045 since the first known case in March.
Another 398 people have died after contracting the virus, meaning the national death toll is now at 55,024.
It comes as the Cabinet Office confirms that families will be able to form bubbles to allow for small gatherings over the Christmas period.
A statement read: "Ministers reiterated the importance of allowing families and friends to meet in a careful and limited way, while recognising that this will not be a normal festive period and the risks of transmission remain very real."
The national lockdown is due to come to an end on December 2, with a return to the tiered system thereafter.
Bristol could be heading towards the strictest Tier 3 measures, unless the spread of the infection can be brought under control before then.
