Bristol and North Somerset record slight rise in coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

The city of Bristol, as well as one of its surrounding regions, have both recorded a rise in coronavirus cases over the last 24 hours.

According to figures released by Public Health England today (Saturday, August 8), Bristol's confirmed cases have jumped to 1,353 after a slight increase of three.

North Somerset has also recorded a further case, bringing its total to 920.

Meanwhile cases in Bath and North East Somerset remain at 357 and South Gloucestershire likewise still has 771 patients who have reported positive for the virus.

Nationally, 309,763 cases have been recorded following a daily rise of 758.

The South West's coronavirus growth rate has also risen higher than any other area of England,  the latest Government data shows.

Its growth rate – the percentage change in the number of cases each day – has reached between minus three per cent and plus three per cent, according to figures released on Friday (August 7).

This is the highest range in England. The next highest is the North West, where the range is between minus three per cent and plus one per cent.

In terms of deaths, 156 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Bristol so far while North Somerset has had 127 recorded and South Gloucestershire 133.

Bath and North East Somerset has recorded the lowest number of deaths in the area at 50.

Across the UK, 46,566 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded so far, a daily rise of 55.
