Bristol Airport warns of flight disruption due to French air traffic control strike which has affected easyJet and Ryanair

Bristol Airport has told passengers their flights could be affected by a strike of French air traffic controllers.

The ATC strike, which started yesterday (May 8), will continue today and is scheduled to end at 5am on Friday.

Bristol Airport tweeted: "Today (9th May) until 0500 Friday 10th May, some flights may be subject to disruption.

"We advise all passengers to check latest flight information with their airline. Thank you for your cooperation."

EasyJet told the Daily Mail it has no plans to cancel flights to and from French destinations.

But the airline has warned customers of delays, stating: "We’re doing everything we can to minimise the delay where possible and we’ll keep you updated here on flight tracker.

"In many cases, we have to push back your plane from the gate and then hold in a queue until we can depart.

"This could mean waiting on the plane for a while. The disruption to your flight is beyond our control and is considered an extraordinary circumstance."

EasyJet is advising passengers to arrive at airports at the original time of departure and check in as normal.

It has also said check-in and bag-drop closing times will not be extended, even if flights are delayed.

EasyJet added: "Like all airlines, our flights to France and passing through French air space could be affected.

"As a result we expect delays and cancellations to some of our flights across the network. Flights that do not operate through France may still be affected as 65% of easyJet flights operate through French air space and may be delayed before arriving for your flight."

Ryanair and Buzz airlines have had to cancel flights heading to and from France, with some planes no longer scheduled to leave the runway today.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "All customers affected by a flight cancellation between 5pm on Wednesday until 4am on Friday have been sent an email and SMS message on Tuesday, advising of their options of a free move or a refund.

"If you have not recieved an email or text SMS then we expect your flight to operate as scheduled.

"If your flight is delayed, you will be sent an email and SMS on the day of your flight with the updated scheduled times of departure.

"We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by these ATC strikes. We will do everything we can to minimise your disruption, which is sadly beyond our control."
