Bristol Airport traffic and travel warning as crash closes A38 – diversion in place via M5 and A370

Bristol Airport passengers are being told to leave extra time for their journeys today (April 28) following a serious crash.

Police are warning the A38 will likely be closed for some time, after three people were rushed to hospital following the accident in Redhill.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were all called to the scene before noon.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman has confirmed a motorcyclist has been taken to Southmead Hospital with serious injuries. They also told Bristol Live two other people have been taken to Weston General Hospital.

It is not known when the road will reopen.

A spokesman from the force added: "There's been a serious injury collision between a motorbike and a car on the #A38 at Redhill.

"This will affect people who are travelling to Bristol Airport from the south. Please leave more time for your journey."

The diversion route

If you are going to the airport from the southern end of the M5, you are advised to avoid getting off at junction 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and instead stay on the motorway until junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare.

From there you can take the A370 to Bristol Airport, although traffic may be slower.
