Bristol Airport starts Ryanair flights to gorgeous European city - with flights from £13

Ryanair has rolled out a new flight route from Bristol Airport, with bargain seats available for passengers on a budget.

The airline has added the Austrian capital Vienna to its list of destinations, which is a city known for its beautiful buildings, rich culture and magical Christmas markets.

Travellers on the first plane out left Bristol on Sunday (August 9), and there will be twice-weekly flights during the airport's summer schedule.

Commenting on the new route, the airport's chief executive Dave Lees said: "This announcement will provide customers in the South West region a wider choice of destinations available from their local airport.

"Vienna is a great cultural destination and known as the ‘city of music’ due to its musical legacy.

"The city offers business and leisure opportunities and the route provides inbound visitor potential to the region.”

Ryanair said it has launched a seat sale to coincide with the launch of the route, with fares from £14.99 for travel until the end of October 2020.

This offer applies to flights booked by midnight tomorrow (Wednesday, August 12), the airline advised.

Bristol Live tracked down some seats at an even cheaper rate, however, with one long weekend in September costing just £26 return.

We found a flight heading out on Sunday, September 27, returning on Wednesday, September 30, for £13 each way.

The flight time is about two hours and 15 minutes depending on the timing and conditions.

Austrian airline Lauda announced in September that it would be launching a direct connection between Bristol and Vienna, setting March 2020 as the start date.

The coronavirus travel shutdown commenced that month, leaving planes grounded at the airport.

Lauda has been part of Ryanair's parent company since 2018, and the Bristol-Vienna flights on their respective websites appear to be the same times and same prices.

Bristol Airport's website lists them as separate operators, however.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is still advising British nationals against all but essential international travel, due to the ongoing pandemic, but only for certain countries.

Austria is one of the countries on the list of exemptions, and travellers should familiarise themselves with coronavirus safety measures in the country, including mandatory face mask and social distancing rules.

Passengers arriving from the UK have been allowed entry into Austria, without need for a medical certificate or self-isolation, since July 27.

Direct flights between Austria and the UK only resumed on August 1.

The country has confirmed more than 21,000 cases of the virus since the outbreak began, compared to more than 311,000 in the UK.
