Bristol Airport passengers still facing disruption even though French air traffic control strike has ended

Bristol Airport has said the majority of flights are now back on schedule after hundreds of passengers faced major disruption last night (May 9).

Thousands of flights were delayed or cancelled after the first big French air-traffic control strike of 2019.

Some passengers were left trapped on the runway for three hours as a number of Bristol flights were disrupted.

The French controllers stopped working as part of industrial action across France by civil servants against President Macron’s plans to reform the public sector.

A spokesperson for Bristol Airport said the industrial action has ceased today (May 10) but added some ongoing reactionary delays were being experienced.

"Due to the earlier French industrial action, a small number of flights to and from Bristol Airport have experienced delays, in addition to two flight cancellations," he said.

"The majority of flights remain operating on schedule.

"For specific flight information, passengers are advised to check with their airline for the latest flight information."

easyJet's apology

The airline said a number of its flights were hit by delays and apologised for the inconvinience.

An easyJetspokesperson said at the time: “Due to a national strike in France today (May 9) that is affecting public services, including Air Traffic Controllers in France, easyJet is experiencing disruption to its flying programme.

"This is affecting flights to and from France as well as flights flying over French airspace.

“Like other airlines flying to and from France, easyJet is required to cancel a proportion of its French programme and, we are also expecting other flights to experience delays.

“Affected customers have the option of transferring their flight free of charge or obtaining a refund and we are providing hotel accommodation and meals for those requiring it.

“Although this is outside of our control we would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and would like to reassure them that we are doing all possible to minimise any disruption as a result of the industrial action.”
