Bristol Airport has been rated the best in the UK - here's why

Bristol Airport has come out on top in an all-encompassing study of the UK's airports.

In the 8th annual report of its kind, AirHelp analysed a series of key performance indicators including on-time-performance (OTP), quality of service and quality of retail.

Although the AirHelp Score report ranks all UK airports amongst the bottom half in the world, Bristol has taken the top spot amongst British airports with an overall score of 7.43/10.

The west country airport scored highest for its quality of service 8.2/10 with travellers also seeming to be pleased with the quality of retail 7.6/10.

Airports’ scores are determined by on-time performance, which accounts for 60 per cent of the score, and then quality of service, which is 20 per cent of the score, and food and shopping options which makes up the remaining 20 per cent of the score.

The report combines expert knowledge and industry expertise to give air passengers better predictions for what their experiences will look like at different airports, how the airlines will treat them under normal circumstances, and what to expect if their flight gets delayed, canceled or overbooked.

Elsewhere, Manchester Airport ranks as the 6th poorest performing (127/132) in the world, with an overall score of 6.26/10.

Although scoring fairly for quality of retail (8/10) Manchester Airport was let down by its punctuality, scoring only 5.2/10 for OTP.

It was a similar story at London Gatwick Airport which ranked 10th lowest in the world overall, scoring competitively for quality of retail (7.9/10) but falling drastically due to its poor OTP score (5.7/10).

AirHelp analysed hundreds of thousands of its own claims submitted to the 46 biggest airlines globally from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2018.
