Bristol Airport disruption warning to passengers after day of snow chaos

Bristol Airport has warned passengers of potential further disruption to journeys amid more difficult weather condition and Air Traffic Control strikes in France. Travellers have been told some flights may be delayed today (March 9) and should contact their airline to check travel information.

Bristol was covered in snow yesterday morning which grounded all flights too and from the airport. Some arriving flights were diverted to Birmingham Airport and departing flights were postponed until 11am, after workers cleared away the settled snow.

Some journeys were still disrupted through the day, with an update from the airline at 4.30pm saying disruption would "likely continue into the evening". Today (March 9), a spokesperson for Bristol Airport warned passengers of delays both because of the weather and industrial action in France.

The spokesperson said: "Bristol Airport is open and operational some flights are experiencing delays due to the reactionary impacts of weather disruption from yesterday; low visibility and snow disruption being experienced across the UK; and French Air Traffic Control strikes today (Thursday, March 9). Customers are advised to contact their airline to check the latest flight information."

Parts of the UK have been issued an amber weather warning for snow and ice from the Met Office for today and tomorrow. Heavy snow and ice experienced across the country is likely to cause disruption to travel and the Met Office warns there may be some cancellations to trains and air travel.

The Met Office warns of:

  • Travel delays on roads, stranding some vehicles and passengers.
  • Some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely.
  • There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off.
  • Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

Strikes in French airlines are also expected to cause further issues. Passengers have been told to contact their airline for detailed travel information.
