Bristol Airport announces new coronavirus quarantine rules for passengers travelling outside 'corridor'

Passengers arriving into Bristol Airport from countries outside the travel corridor can book a Covid-19 test to reduce their quarantine period to five days from today (Monday, December 15) providing a negative test result.

All passengers travelling into the UK by plane now have the option to pay to take a private Covid-19 PCR test after completing five days of self-isolation. If the test result is negative, customers will no longer need to self-isolate.

Up to now, most travellers arriving in the UK from most countries - including British nationals - have had to self-isolate for 10 days.

Passengers using the government’s scheme - called Test to Release - must book their test before leaving for England and list the test on their passenger locator form.

Bristol Airport is working with SYNLAB, a government approved test provider, to offer tests which cost £59.99 for Bristol Airport customers and £99.99 for other customers in the UK.

A spokesperson from the Airport said: “On payment passengers will receive a confirmation of their test kit order and the Test reference number required.

“The Covid-19 kits will be sent to the address the passenger has identified as their place of quarantine.

“The passenger will be given a virtual appointment time to log on to the digital portal following a full five days of self-isolation.

“The appointment consists of an instruction to watch a video and complete the sample collection process with a virtual appointment including how to package the sample and post to SYNLAB.

“Each passenger must have a completed the test, they will be guided by the video and test instructions how to complete the Test Request Form (TRF) with the correct information and how to package up the sample and simply return it to the SYNLAB laboratory using the Royal Mail Tracked 24 postal service.

“Customers will receive results of the test within 48 hours. If the test result is negative, then they will no longer need to quarantine. If the test result is positive, they will need to follow Government guidance and continue to self-isolate for the required length of time.”
