Bristol accent ranked amongst least popular in UK

Whether the voices of the Gallagher brothers do it for you or you’re more of a Sean Connery fan, it’s true to say that some accents are saucier than others.

There’s very few other English-speaking countries with as many varieties of accents and language in such a small space, making the British Isles uniquely diverse when it comes to dialects.

Bristol pub crawls launched covering blood, butchery and Blackbeard

In fact, there’s a huge 56 recognised accents across the UK and Ireland.

But it seems as if the Bristolian accent is not one of the popular ones, according to a poll by company Big 7 Travel.

It comes in at number 45 in a ranking of sexiest - and least sexiest - accents in the UK.

The West Country accent did worse, ranking in 47th place.

The Bristol accent is what is called a 'rhotic' accent where you say every R seen.

It is also described as Germanic at times, with a long A.

Neighbouring Somerset however does better in the poll,  appearing in 16th place.

The poll ranked the Essex accent in first place, the Northern Irish accent as second, Glaswegian as third and Queen's English as fourth, with Mancunian coming fifth ahead of the Scouse accent at sixth.

And while it may be good enough for Cillian Murphy in Peaky Blinders, the Brummie twang was voted the least attractive at number 50 in the list.
