Brisbane traffic cop struck by stolen car

A Queensland police officer is in a stable condition after he was deliberately hit by a driver in a stolen car he was trying to pull over in southern Brisbane.

Police said the officer had been conducting random speed checks on Orange Grove Rd in Salisbury about 6.30am on Wednesday.

When he stepped onto the road to flag down a car, the vehicle was steered towards him and struck him.

The officer is in a stable condition and undergoing medical assessment.

Police have appealed for public information to identify the man driving a stolen Mercedes C250 sedan with the Queensland licence plate 132 ZCT.

It was found a short time later abandoned on Eaton Place in Wishart.

Police will provide an update to the incident at 2pm.
