Jarryd Lyons' coach admits the Brisbane midfielder doesn't play a "sexy" game of AFL footy.
But for Chris Fagan, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
"He doesn't look all that sexy, I suppose, in terms of the way he plays the game," Lions coach Fagan said.
"But he's very, very effective."
Lyons celebrated his 150th AFL game on Saturday by torching one of his former clubs, Adelaide.
He collected 31 disposals, laid 10 tackles and had five inside 50s in Brisbane's 52-point hammering of the Crows in Adelaide.
It was the latest in a string of stellar displays by Lyons which must leave the Crows and Gold Coast wondering how they overlooked his beauty.
Lyons left Adelaide at the end of 2016 after 55 games in five seasons, never able to secure a permanent slot in the Crows' midfield.
He went to Gold Coast and averaged almost 25 disposals a game in two seasons.
The Suns then inexplicably delisted him, despite having a season remaining on his three-year contract.
The very next day, the Lions pounced and signed Lyons as a delisted free agent.
"For some reason which I am not sure of, Gold Coast were prepared to let him go," Fagan said.
"And he has been an absolutely magnificent bloke to coach since his arrival at the Lions.
"He has got great leadership qualities. He's a a damn good footballer and decision-maker on the field."
Lyons, who has played 58 of his 150 games with Brisbane, is enjoying his finest season yet, averaging more than 28 disposals a game.
