A man stabbed a stranger after a verbal spat in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, leaving him with multiple wounds to his face and chest.
Keenan Lee Gourley, 28, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm in the Brisbane District Court on Friday.
Gourley had a "minor exchange" with the stranger outside a liquor store in May 2019.
He also verbally insulted a woman by calling her a "dog", before the victim confronted him asking: "Mate, what's your problem?"
As the victim turned, he was attacked from behind and punched to the right-hand side of his jaw.
Gourley pulled a sharp bladed instrument, stabbing the victim in the face and the chest.
He was slashed under his eye and a 23cm-long wound to his upper chest along with cuts to his nose, ear and eyebrow.
The court was told the attack was "unprovoked gratuitous street violence" over a slight grievance.
Gourley also has a history of violent overreaction to perceived slights, previously sentenced for firing a shotgun at a man, hitting him in the hand and thigh after a petty online disagreement in 2016.
Judge Richard Jones is expected to hand down his sentence later Friday.
