Brisbane Lions AFLW player recovering after lightning strike

A Brisbane Lions AFLW player is recovering after lightning struck a pole she was holding.

The football club said Jessica Wuetschner was working in the crib of a ship which was held up by a crane when the strike happened early on Sunday morning.

The 27-year-old was taken to hospital and discharged a few hours later.

While she received no physical injuries, Wuetschner said she was still recovering.

"Physically I am A-OK, but I'm still processing things mentally," she said in a statement from Brisbane Lions.

"I am feeling a bit flat physically so will be resting my body.

"I was very lucky and I'm feeling very fortunate.

"The doctors have given me the all clear to return to training, so I'm looking forward to getting back to footy, getting back to normal."

Wuetschner returned to training on Tuesday night.

The Lion's AFLW CEO said the club was thankful she is all right and the team was supporting her in every way possible.
