Brisbane commuter chaos after Coronation Drive crash takes out traffic lights

There were major traffic delays along one of Brisbane city's busiest thoroughfares this morning after a car crashed into a pole and took out traffic lights, just before 4:00am.

Police said after leaving the scene the driver of the car had second thoughts and caught a taxi back to the crash site on the corner of Coronation Drive and Boomerang Street, to seek help from Queensland Ambulance.

Paramedics said the man in his 20s was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital complaining of chest and thoracic pain.

Police warned of major traffic delays after parts of the road were closed, but all lanes have now reopened.

Police said a crane was brought in to lift the pole, with officers directing cars through the intersection until the lights were repaired.

Meanwhile, in other road dramas across the state police said an excavator bucket fell off the back of a truck on the Cunningham Highway at Inglewood this morning.

A spokesman for the Department of Transport and Main Roads said all lanes were impacted and delays were expected for some time.

Police said a crane was used to lift the bucket off the road.
