Briony from Bake Off was in Southmead sharing her baking skills

The Great British Bake Off star and Bristolian Briony Williams was in Southmead on Friday to celebrate the relaunch of Southmead Children’s Centre.

The management of the early education and childcare provision at the centre, previously known as Badock's Wood, has recently been taken over by Bristol City Council for children aged two years and above.

It is now part of the North Bristol Children’s Centre Hub, and a range of health and family support services are available to families in the community.

On Friday (August 30) a Summer Fayre was held at the centre in Doncaster Road to celebrate its relaunch.

Families enjoyed a BBQ, face painting, raffle and tombola and special guest Briony Williams shared some of her baking skills during a cake decorating session.

Helen Godwin, cabinet member for women, children and families at BCC, said: “The children’s centre has been through some challenging times over the past few years, but we want to reassure the local community that it is here to stay.

“Management has now been passed to the council’s education and children’s services and I’m confident we can work together to make sure that the centre continues to thrive.

“Our passionate team will be looking to transform the play and learning spaces for children, where they will have the opportunity to become inquisitive capable learners.”

The second episode of this year’s The Great British Bake Off series airs at 8pm on Channel 4 tonight (Tuesday, September 3).
