'Bring on the signings' - Fans react to Liverpool's £17m double deal

Marko Grujic and Taiwo Awoniyi both spent last season on loan and neither appear to be making it back to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool look set to bank £17m in transfer fees with Taiwo Awoniyi and Marko Grujic both linked to moves away from the club.

The ECHO understands that Awoniyi is set to complete a £6.5m move to German side Union Berlin with a medical for the forward scheduled to take place later today.

The deal last season was Awoniyi's seventh loan move since arriving at Liverpool with the difficulty to get a work permit hindering the youngster's chances of breaking into the first team.

Meanwhile, Grujic is in Portugal to finalise a permanent return to FC Porto having spent last season on loan at the Primeira Liga club.

The deal involves a fee of £10.5million for the Serbia international, and the ECHO also understands that the Reds have included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in both deals.

Liverpool fans took to social media to say they felt sorry for both players, claiming they deserved a better chance during their time at Anfield.

One supporter tweeted: "Feel sorry for Grujic to be honest. Dragged him away from his club when he was young and then loaned him out and he never really got a chance here. Good luck to him in Portugal."

Another fan said: "Taiwo should have been given a chance to prove himself, the lad is a unit, can finish and could have added something different, we need depth in the squad, Marko is a good player and deserved a chance, shame."

"Bit disappointed not to see Taiwo given a pre season game, felt he could have served us well. But Klopp knows more," added another Red.

However, some Reds saw the positives in the sales. Many hailed the moves as good business for the club in order to raise funds to bring in players ahead of the new season.

One fan claimed: "£6.5m for Awoniyi is a very good deal."

While another questioned: "Will these two deals allow for any possible incomings?"
