There are many things happening this week, all of great import. It's the anniversary of the death of Diana, queen of Herts (or something), and don't forget - yes, I know I mentioned this last week, but I can't get over it - if you were just thinking what you needed most in the world was to watch the entire funeral coverage again, you can. I did offer to live blog it, sorry, deadblog it, but apparently there was concern that it might not be in good taste. Boooo.
Of course the most important thing happening this week is the end of Big Brother for one more year. And I can't believe I almost got through it without realising that someone out there is still bothering series one baddie Nasty Nick for his take on the whole thing. He's not nasty anymore so much as downright unpleasant about the housemates of course, but Downright Unpleasant Nick doesn't have the same ring to it. Not unpleasant, but extremely funny, Mumm Hazel has stuck by the series, blogging it for the myspace masses, and her opinion is the one that all the best people that have one seem to have (?) that Sam and Amanda will win. According to unrealitytv, they're the most popular housemates ever, and they are, to be fair, jolly popular, look! They have at least one fansite, and a Facebook support group with at least 20 members! Will they win? I have no idea. But we will be watching (and blogging it) so will let you know. James has helpfully rounded up the best bits, for those who care - for those who don't, it's over tomorrow, it's safe to come back to the television now.
On more of a random note those who like the ephemera of television life might enjoy this collection of station branding promos on South Dakota Dark which in turn linked back to another post by the same blogger on a happier time, when television believed it united the world. Or at least the USA. If you are the kind of person to like those things, you might also like this set of nice idents from Belgium, provided by the lovely idents.tv.
Of course, you may be one of the great majority that couldn't give a stuff about the ephemera of television. So here's a profile of JG Ballard from Smashing Telly.
Coming to a screen near you soon? MTV in America is producing a Strictly Come Dancing-ish series about celebrities being coached by rap stars in order to become the champion of 'Celebrity Rap Superstar'. This would be brilliant. I need it in this country. Imagine - Amanda Holden being cuss-coached by Common. Jamie Oliver being shown the ways of rhyme by Eminem. The campaign starts here.
Apart from that, I cannot tell a lie, I have fallen in love with Flight of the Conchords and, after soaking up all the clips I could from their current HBO series on the official website, I found myself rifling through youtube in search of my next lovely conchorddy fix. And that's what I'ev been doing quite literally ALL Week. It's Business Time
